The Forest City Housing Authority (FCHA) is seeking to hire an experienced and qualified candidate for the position of Maintenance Mechanic. FCHA manages 3 separate multi-family complexes with a total of 176 units. FCHA is a smoke-free facility.
Description of work:
Performs maintenance tasks including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, carpentry, general repair, drywall, ground maintenance, janitorial activities, vacancy preparation, preventive maintenance, and related disciplines. Performs specialized tasks based on abilities that may include HV AC repair, electrical repair, plumbing repair, or upper-level carpentry tasks. Must be able to work independently or as a team. Ability to understand and work from sketches, blueprints, diagrams, etc. Ability to maintain records and prepare routine reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other authority employees, and the residents. Must be able to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to lift or handle a variety of appliances by using hand trucks or Ability to kneel, crawl, stoop, and crouch in order to work in tight or cramped spaces such as attics and crawlspaces; ability to work in these positions for extended periods of time. Ability to work in wet, damp, hot, cold, or dusty conditions for extended periods of time. Ability to work while standing for extended periods of time. Ability to climb a ladder in order to gain access to work areas.
Serves as the on-call maintenance representative on a rotating basis for emergency after-hours and weekend coverage.
This is an hourly full-time position. Pay will be based on background and experience. FCHA offers health insurance, retirement, and accrued vacation and sick time.
Education, Training, and/or Experience
This position requires graduation from an accredited high school with a degree and certification in a related trade as required for the assignment; a minimum of three years experience maintaining multifamily rental property; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Additional vocational or technical training in one or more trades is highly recommended. Candidate must have a valid North Carolina driver's license and must be able to be covered under the Authority's vehicle insurance policy.
