Mission Statement

The mission of Forest City Housing Authority is to promote adequate and affordable housing, economic opportunity and a suitable living environment free from discrimination.

We intend to provide an improved living environment by implementing measures to de-concentrate poverty by bringing higher income public housing households into lower income developments and by implementing public housing security improvements. We will promote self-sufficiency of assisted households by increasing the number and percentage of employed persons in assisted families by providing contact information for supportive services to improve assisted families' ability to be employed. We will ensure equal opportunity and affirmatively further fair housing objectives by undertaking affirmative measures to insure access to assisted housing and provide a suitable living environment for families regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status or disability.

We will try to ensure access to affordable housing among families assisted by the PHA regardless of unit size required.

We will target available assistance to families at or below 30% and 50% of the Area Median Income by adopting rent policies to support and encourage work and employ admissions preferences aimed at families who are working. Self-sufficiency will be encouraged.

Forest City Housing Authority has adopted preferences for elderly over single applicants. We will affirmatively market to local non-profit agencies that assist families with disabilities. We will increase awareness of PHA resources among families with disabilities. We will increase awareness of PHA resources among families of races and ethnicities with disproportionate needs by giving our name to agencies for referrals. We will make referrals to agencies with units outside of areas of poverty or minority concentration, if available.
